Working Lands Alliance
The Working Lands Alliance is a multi-interest coalition working to preserve
Connecticut's remaining farmland. Its members include more than 135 organizations
that are individually involved in land conservation, environmental protection,
farming, and food security. The alliance is currently addressing the loss of
farmland by advocating for an increase in state funding for the Connecticut
Department of Agriculture's Farmland Preservation Program. The WLA is also
educating the public about the importance of agriculture in the state and has
developed a private agricultural land trust.
The Hartford Food System played a key role in organizing the Working Lands Alliance. It currently provides administrative support and serves as the coalition's information clearinghouse. For more information about how to get involved with the Working Lands Alliance or about farmland preservation in general, contact the Working Lands Alliance or visit the Working Lands Alliance website.
